| Kick Asynchronous Transfer
Mode (ATM) is a high-bandwidth, fast-packet switching
technology that provides high-quality, integrated transmission
services for all traffic types. Kick's leadership and
early commitment to ATM services have accelerated the
development and deployment of ATM throughout the industry,
and user communities.
Kick ATM is a powerful service for building and interconnecting
backbone networks as well as for carrier applications,
with speeds from DS-1 up to OC-n (OC-12 and above based
on local availability). For example, use Kick ATM to
connect your own ATM, frame relay, or IP switches across
the country, maximizing the efficiency and utilization
of your facilities.
ATM is also the platform of choice for converged enterprise
networks that carry video, voice, and data. Migration
and gateway options help you transition frame relay and
IP networks to Kick ATM.
|
Capture the opportunities enabled by these Kick ATM features: |
- Transmission speeds from DS-1 (1.5 Mbps) up to OC-n
(OC-12 and above based on local availability)
- Multiple classes of service: unspecified bit rate
(UBR), variable bit rate real-time (VBR-rt) and variable
bit rate non-real-time (VBR-nrt) for images and data,
and constant bit rate (CBR) for voice and video
- Dynamic bandwidth allocation including inverse multiplexing
of DS-1/DS-0 circuits over ATM
- Reliability and performance of transmission over
the Kick 100% digital, fiber-optic SONET/ATM backbone
network
- Service interworking with Kick Frame Relay Service
and IP Services as well as the PSTN via gateway services
- Permanent virtual circuits (PVC) logical connections
and customer-based switched virtual circuits (SVCs)
- Scalability and protocol transparency for video,
imaging and multimedia applications
- 24x7 customer support from a dedicated service center
- Managed network service option for single point-of-contact
network design, implementation, and management
|
Kick ATM can deliver the advantages of the highest-speed,
integrated networking: |
- Consolidate voice, video, and data networks to simplify
network management and reduce costs
- Prioritize traffic and network services to match
performance expectations and application needs with
guaranteed service levels
- Expand services and gain capacity for multimedia
and other bandwidth-intensive applications
- Smooth the migration from frame relay and IP networks
|
Kick ATM supports the bandwidth, flexibility, and quality
required by many data, video, and voice applications for
business including: |
- · Video conferencing, interactive presentations,
distance learning, call center
- Collaborative computing, supercomputer access, internet
and intranet applications, workflow distribution,
LAN internetworking, data warehousing
- PBX interconnection for internal voice and fax calls
- Disaster recovery
|
- Domestic: service speeds from DS-1 to OC-3 are generally
available in the 48 contiguous states from all Kick
points of presence. Higher-speed ATM access is available
on a case-by-case basis in the 48 contiguous states,
based upon availability of SONET from the local service
provider. Services in Hawaii, Alaska and the Virgin
Islands are available by special arrangement
- International: connections in more than 40 countries
worldwide
